Statistics on divorce in the U.S.

On Behalf of Law Offices of Andrew S. Guisbond | Nov 23, 2020 | Uncategorized |

Whether you are thinking about bringing your marriage to an end or you are currently involved in a divorce, it is important to know that many Americans are dealing with similar challenges. Over the years, the divorce rate has declined in the U.S., according to statistics. However, many couples continue to end their marriage and it is crucial to approach the process carefully.

From infidelity to growing apart and domestic violence, there are a host of reasons why marriages do not work out. If you are currently in an unhealthy marriage that you cannot save, do not feel trapped.

Reviewing the prevalence of divorce in different parts of the U.S.

According to data published by Bowling Green State University, more than one million women got a divorce during 2018. Although the divorce rate declined during 2018, reaching the lowest level in 40 years, many couples ended their marriage, especially in the southern U.S. However, the divorce rate was lower in many parts of the Northeast and Midwest. In the western U.S., there was a lower divorce rate in California and a much higher divorce rate in Oregon. In 2018, Arkansas had the highest rate of divorce and in 2018, roughly 26 out of every 1,000 married women ended their marriage in this state.

Reviewing statistics on the divorce rate in recent decades

In recent decades, the divorce rate has dropped in the U.S. During 1980, 22.8 out of every 1,000 women got a divorce, compared to 15.7 in 2018. Moreover, 2018 saw a decline in comparison to 2017, when 16.1 out of every 1,000 women ended their marriage. If you need to bring your marriage to an end, you should carefully explore all of your options and the unique aspects of your divorce.
